|Dear Friends, |
Working for my neighbors in Houston as mayor during the last five years has been a great honor. Many have asked me to continue in public service. I will do so by seeking election to the U.S. Senate for Texas. I want to represent your interests as part of a team which will get this nation moving, just as we have gotten Houston moving.
Our nation faces the most difficult economic challenges in a generation. We need to turn around the economy and invest more in the education and training of Americans. We need to make our energy more secure, affordable, and sustainable. My experience in business and law, as mayor of the nation's fourth largest city, and as a leader in federal government on energy policy give me the background to address these issues on behalf of all Texas.
In Houston we have worked hard to bring people together from diverse backgrounds and political views to get things done. They need that quality in Washington these days. And Texas needs a strong voice with the new administration.
I know words can be cheap, so just think of what has been accomplished in my time at City Hall. Houston has led the nation in job growth. We have provided far more services - including more parks, libraries and health clinics - while cutting the property tax rate and raising the senior exemption in each of our annual budgets. We have reduced the overall crime rate and forced polluters to comply with the law.
Texas has been good for me and my family. I grew up outside San Antonio, the son of hard-working teachers. The American Legion provided me with a college scholarship. In my career I have fought for consumers, built successful businesses, and led my community's response to natural disasters. My life, and that of my wife Andrea and our children, has embodied the American dream, a dream of progress, with each generation in America having more opportunities than those which precede it. Let me represent you and that dream.
Please write or email 20-100 people who you know, especially those from outside of Houston, and describe my approach to governing this city and urge them to support me for this Senate seat.
And finally, as you know so well, your financial support is vital to help spread the word. So, please visit my website - www.BillWhiteForTexas.com - to find out more information about my campaign and to make a contribution.
