|Rohan Roongta is 16 from Sugar Land and has recently won six gold medals at the National Martial Arts Championships ( Legends of Kungfu tournament ) held in Dallas on July 18-19, 2009. Rohan has been learning Tai Chi at Chen Style Tai Chi Development Center located in China town area of Houston from 19th generation grandmaster and the only Tai Chi Chuan descendant in North America Master Cheng Jin Cai since he was barely six years old. Rohan won the gold medals in different categories such as Taiji straight sword, Taiji sabre, Taiji staff, Taiji double sword, Chen Taiji U.S. Competition form, and Chen Taiji 38 step form. |
Tai Chi is China's ultimate in health, fitness with martial arts applications such as self defense and Chen style is the origin of all other forms of Tai Chi. Practising its flowing, gentle movements the individual develops "from inside out "one's internal energy, or as it is called in Mandarin, chi, a dynamic form of meditation.
Rohan has participated in various Martial Arts tournaments and won several medals through the years. He owes his success to the excellent teaching skills & guidance of Master Cheng along with sheer hard work and determination. Rohan is also part of the US Taiji team that will be participating at the 5th Jiaozuo International Taijiquan Competition in China from August 20-24, 2009.
Rohan will be a Junior at the Awty International School and will be pursuing his International Baccalaureate Diploma starting this Fall. His other interests besides active participation in school clubs such as Model United Nations and Academic Challenge include Basketball, Soccer, Western classical piano, Indian classical music and community service with SewaUSA, Make a wish Foundation and Sugar Land Health Care center for seniors.
