|August Jazz Month Kick-off |
Saxophonist/Flutist Sylvester "Stank" LeBlanc
to Host the Jam Session this Week
We Present Int'l Chinese Jazz by Wu
The Carol Sanders' Monday Nite Jazz Jam just continues to grow week after week. This week we have the pleasure of bringing you guest show host Saxophonist, Flutist and vocalist, Sylvester "Stank" LeBlanc. The scheduled line-up for August has been switched because drummer Marion Booker "The Legend" is in such great demand that he will not be returning to Houston until the 3rd week of August and we will feature him on the 17th.
( Please see below for revised Jazz Month weekly line-up)
Sylvester LeBlanc or "Stank" as he is so affectionately know, is one of the Houston's premier jazz musicians, he has lead the famous "Fifth Ward Express", worked for Walt Disney and was a featured musician in the Play "Love Janis", a tribute to Janis Joplin. Stank's credentials shows him as a writer, arranger, producer, educator and even succeeded Prof Conrad Johnson as band director of the world famous Kashmere Stage Band in 1977.
One very important thing about "Stank" is that he and Fifth Ward Express hosted this Monday Nite Jazz Jam for years. So this is part of Monday Nite Jazz Jam history having LeBlanc back hosting a show that he kept alive during the 1980s.
Also this week to help us kick-off Jazz Month Houston we bring to you never before heard "Chinese Improvisation" (Chinese Jazz) by Mr. Dazhen Wu in collaboration with pianist Robert Sanders and Producer T.R. Reed. Dazhen Wu is a member of the Royal Chinese Central Opera and Symphony. As first chair clarinetist for this Royal Music Ensemble he has had the honor of performing for Presidents and Dignitaries of the world. Dazhen Wu came to America to study Jazz and found the Carol Sanders Monday Nite Jazz Jam and the finest group of Jazz musicians that this Country has to offer!!!
