|(HOUSTON, TX) – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office will announce the details surrounding two cold cases recently solved by its revitalized Cold Case Squad.|
In June 2004, 88-year-old Clarence Payne was found badly beaten in his east Harris County home – the apparent victim of a violent robbery. Mr. Payne sustained serious bodily injury as result of blunt force trauma to the head. He was taken to an area hospital where he survived for two weeks before succumbing to his injuries. During the initial investigation in 2004, investigators were not able to identify a suspect responsible for the murder. The case was re-opened in 2009 with the reconstitution of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Squad and a suspect was identified. During the course of the investigation, investigators discovered additional information linking the suspect in Mr. Payne’s death to a second killing.
The suspect in both cases is in the Harris County Jail on an unrelated charge.
Relatives of both victims will be present at the news conference.
