HOUSTON―A unique Houston treasure located in Hermann Park, Miller Outdoor Theatre has entertained and delighted several generations of Houstonians. Pack a picnic basket, a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the performance from the hill, or sit in the brand new seats under the canopy. All performances are FREE.

Sept. 18-19, 7:30 p.m.
13th Annual Grand Taiko Festival
Produced by Kaminari Taiko of Houston, Inc.

Enjoy a spectacular Japanese Taiko drumming concert filled with high energy movements to the beat of thunderous drums including the most powerful drum in America. Experience the graceful movements of authentic Japanese classical dancing and awesome aerial guest artists for an evening of family entertainment.

Swing, Jive & Pop! Into Dance

Produced by Houston Metropolitan Dance Company

Watch dance of all styles and eras explode onto stage to engage, entertain and enlighten students of all ages. Swing in the 30s, tap to "Singin’ in the Rain,” Hand Jive through the 50s and Electric Slide into today. Students participate in an energy-filled hour of dance, music and costumes while learning historical tidbits of information on fashion, games and toys of decades past.

*15th Annual Weekend of Texas Contemporary Dance
Produced by Dance Source Houston

Houston's free dance festival returns to the Miller Outdoor Theatre stage with an engaging program of work by Houston's most dynamic choreographers and dancers. Presented by Dance Source and organized by Founder and President Christina Giannelli, the dance festival showcases a wide range of contemporary choreographic styles set to an eclectic mix of live and recorded music.

Dance Around the World
Produced by Dance Source Houston

This 50-minute program introduces families to classical and contemporary dances from various countries, including China. This performance features dancers from Houston Ballet II, the top level and pre-professional division of the Houston Ballet Ben Stevenson Academy, among others.

Sept. 26, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Marvelous China: A multi-art show from China
Presented by Chinese Civic Center

A five-hour, multi-art show that includes folk dance, traditional opera, acrobats, chorus, Asian musical instruments, Kung Fu, ethnic costume shows and much more. This cultural celebration begins at 10 a.m. in the Houston Garden Center International Sculpture Park with the official unveiling of the sculpture of Confucius, a gift to Houston from the People’s Republic of China.

Sept. 28-30, 11 a.m.
How Nanita Learned to Make Flan
Produced by HGOco, Houston Grand Opera

In this bilingual version of the popular children's story, the young daughter of a poor shoemaker needs shoes of her own. The magical pair that she makes for herself takes her on a journey that teaches her the importance of home and family. Composed by Enrique Gonzalez-Medina, with Librettist Campbell Guesclin.
