|Houston, Texas – The Texas Dragon Boat Association (TDBA) is pleased to announce the team lineup for this May’s 9th Annual Houston Dragon Boat Festival. |
The Houston Dragon Boat Festival, which takes place on May 2, 2009, will be held at Allen’s Landing in downtown Houston, and will showcase over 30 competing corporate, community, and youth teams. This multicultural tradition highlights exciting dragon boat races while also featuring cultural performances and ethnic foods all against the backdrop of the downtown skyline.
To date, corporate teams include: BHP Billiton Petroleum, Café Express, CGG Veritas, Channel 13 ABC, City of Sugar Land & First Colony Community Association, ConocoPhillips, Continental Airlines, El Paso Corporation, Foster Quan, HEB, KPMG, People’s Trust FCU, The Planet, Randall’s Food Market, Reliant Energy, Silver Eagle Distributors, TransCanada, Wal-Mart, and The Wood Group.
Community teams include: Houston Blind Fury, Brown Club of Houston, Houston Heat, Korean Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma City, Pink Phurree, Rice University, Trinity Episcopal Church, the University of Houston Downtown, and Dulles Chinese Honor Society. Our hotel sponsor, Courtyard Marriott Downtown Houston, will be sponsoring Lee High School’s youth team.
We are also proud to announce that El Paso Corporation will be the Dock Sponsor, and the Houston Astros, Café Express, Fiesta, and Minute Maid will serve as additional Special Sponsors for the May Dragon Boat Festival.
The teams, comprised of men, women, mixed and youth crews, are helping TDBA reach its goal to launch a year-round boating education program for youth teams and to build a boathouse on Buffalo Bayou.

The Texas Dragon Boat Association (TDBA) is a 501(c)(3) Texas non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote the tradition of dragon boating, increase awareness of Asian and Asian American culture, and enhance cross-cultural understanding. TDBA organizes the Houston Dragon Boat Festival each May and the Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta each October. To support its year-round teambuilding program, breast cancer survivor program, and youth boating education program, TDBA is raising funds to build two boathouses: Buffalo Bayou and Sugar Land.
