|Houston, TX -- On May 8, 2009 the Asian Pacific American Heritage Association (APAHA), held its 17th Annual Gala the Marriott Westchase. The Asian /Pacific American Heritage Association is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. APAHA's mission is to promote the Asian/Pacific American culture, heritage and awareness through celebration events and educational outreach leading to the National Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. |
Sichan Siv, former Ambassador to Cambodia, was honored with the "George H.W. Bush Award" for his outstanding service to the nation. Siv is also the best selling author of "Golden Bones" which tells of his account of escaping the "killing fields of Cambodia" to his becoming an Ambassador to the United Nations. Siv also served as Deputy Assistant to President H.W.Bush at the White House, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the State Department.
Donna Fujimoto Cole, founder of Cole Chemical & Distributing, Inc., was presented with the "Outstanding Business Achievement Award". Ms. Cole is highly respected in her community and across the nation as a sharp and savvy businesswoman. She continues to believe in the value of relationships that include customers, suppliers and employees and employees. The performance history, honesty, and helpfulness at Cole Chemical are a direct result of leadership from the top.
The "Outstanding Community Service Award" was presented to Asian American Family Services, a nationally recognized community-based mental agency for its programs that focuses on Houston's diverse Asian communities and beyond. Additionally, the organization provides counselors who are fluent in various Asian languages. AAFS has become a shining beacon of hope for mental health within Houston's Asian American community and beyond.
