Nature Trekkers Summer Camps at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

NEW after-camp activities offered

HOUSTON―This summer, join the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center naturalist teachers for fun-filled, week-long camps that explore the natural world through hands-on indoor and outdoor adventures at the 155-acre sanctuary. Children are taught in classes by age (5-6, 7-8 and 9-12). With full day or morning-only sessions available all summer from June to August, your child is sure to find a camp that fits his or her schedule and interests. Arboretum members receive priority registration and a discounted rate.

This year, the Arboretum is partnering with City ArtWorks and Creative Movement Camp to offer enrichment activities in weeklong, after-camp classes that last from 3 to 5 p.m.

Camp Fees:
All day: 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Members: $230 per child per class
Non-members: $270 per child per class
Morning-only option: 9 a.m.- noon (Limited spaces available)
Members: $120 per child per class
Non-members: $150 per child per class

After-camp class option 3- 5 p.m. (Limited spaces available)
$100 per child per week

Membership: Members must be at or above Family Tree level to receive discounts. Learn about our membership.

Family Discount: $10 off registration for additional child in same family.

Refund Policy: You must notify us of your cancellation in writing by mail or fax (713-682-2539) no later than 10 days prior to the class to receive a 50% refund.

Cancellations by Arboretum: After camp classes require a minimum number of participants and may be cancelled the Friday before camp if the minimum is not met.

Future camp dates:

June 15-19: LIFELINES (Session 1)

Discover the designs and artistic beauty of nature. Campers will create crafts and hands-on art projects and play interactive games to help them appreciate art and intricate patterns that occur in nature. Young naturalists will discover their inner artists.

5 and 6 yrs - all day (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) class is full
5 and 6 yrs - morning only option has one space left

AFTER CAMP (3-5 p.m.): Creative Movement Camp
This camp focuses on locomotor skills with the use of music and games. Campers will enjoy dance, yoga, rhythm instruments, tumbling and gardening. Instructors will guide children through non-competitive activities that will stimulate mind and body.

June 22-26: OUTDOOR ADVENTURES (Session 1)

Increase your green IQ. Learn fun and challenging outdoor skills like orienteering, knot tying and camp crafts. Find out how to leave no trace behind when camping or exploring nature.

5 and 6 yrs - all classes full
7 and 8 yrs – all-day option (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) is full

AFTER CAMP (3-5 p.m.): City ArtWorks Camp - Déjà vu—Everything old is new again!
Put on your thinking cap and use your imagination to make fabulous creations from things found in everyday life. What could you make with bottle caps, junk mail and other recycled items?

June 29-July 3: BUG BASICS (Session 1)

Create your own entomology field kit; learn some basic classification and identification skills while we explore insects of pond, meadow and forest. Learn how to safely collect, observe and release our study creatures.

5 and 6 yrs- all-day option (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) is full

AFTER CAMP (3-5 p.m.): Creative Movement Camp
This camp focuses on locomotor skills with the use of music and games. Campers will enjoy dance, yoga, rhythm instruments, tumbling and gardening. Instructors will guide children through non-competitive activities that will stimulate mind and body.

July 6-10: WILD SCIENCE (Session 1)

If you like the outdoors, wild animals and ecology, then wildlife biology is the career for you. Learn how wildlife biologists manage wild creatures and the habitats they live in. Make some of the tools of the trade and develop your wildlife tracking skills.

9-12 yrs - all day option is full

AFTER CAMP (3-5 p.m.): City ArtWorks Camp - Reptile-O-Rama
Reptiles can be unusual and fascinating creatures. Come explore the world of these cold-blooded animals while making two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art from a variety of materials.

July 13-17: WINGED HUNTERS (Session 2)

Winged Hunters are the rock stars of the bird world. Learn about the specialized tools that predatory birds use to capture prey, where they can be found and how to identify them by their calls and shapes.

9-12 yrs – all day and morning-only classes full

AFTER CAMP (3-5 p.m.): Creative Movement Camp
This camp focuses on locomotor skills with the use of music and games. Campers will enjoy dance, yoga, rhythm instruments, tumbling and gardening. Instructors will guide children through non-competitive activities that will stimulate mind and body.

July 20-24: LIFELINES (Session 2)

Think of the carefully placed twigs in a bird's nest, the delicate strands of a spider web or the striking radial balance found in many flowers. Often we get our best ideas from observing Mother Nature's handiwork.

July 27-31: OUTDOOR ADVENTURES (Session 2)
