Southern News Group, publishers of the Southern Chinese Daily News newspaper and
the Chinese Yellow Pages for 30 years in southwest Houston, will welcome its newest
addition to its growing family of media enterprises when it formally launches ITV International Television, digital Channel 55.5, on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.
The new station will offer international programming on a 24-hour, 7 days a week basis, and will include both Asian and other international language presentations that will include news,movies, documentaries, sports and educational shows. Because the station is served by a digital signal, there is no charge for accessing the station, as is the case with cable television.
"With the opening of this new TV station, we now have newspapers, yellow pages, printing services and internet service to communities in ten different major cities around the country. Our goal is to build a very strong 'International Media Center,' " said Southern News Group Chairman, Wea H. Lee.
The new station will broadcast in a radius that will extend up to 200 miles in all directions fromHouston, and will include Conroe, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Waller, Chambers, Liberty and Austin counties.
"Houston is truly an international city, and now with the new ITV International Television, the diversity of our community will be depicted and even enhanced by this new and easy to access digital service, " Lee explained.
