EXHIBIT Larger than life bugs take over The Health Museum! See what you’ve been
DESCRIPTION: stepping on. Backyard Monsters is an exploration into the creepy, crawly world of insects. Featuring six giant animatronic insects up to 9 feet tall, visitors will encounter a tarantula, fighting beetles, a wasp, caterpillar and a beautiful monarch butterfly. It’s an exhibit where you are the size of the bug and the bugs are enormous! Visitors will also experience insect specimens and education stations. Appropriate for all ages.
SPECIAL EVENTS Naturally Wild at The Health Museum, 2 – 3 p.m.
DESCRIPTION: Are you Naturally Wild about bugs? Learn even more about Backyard Monsters with a Zoo Keeper from the Houston Zoo's Naturally Wild Swap Shop! Come learn, chat and share your knowledge about bugs with the Zoo Keeper. You'll also learn about how you can bring items you have found in nature and trade them for items from the Naturally Wild Swap Shop collection at the Houston Zoo. You don't want to miss this!
Museum Educator Open House, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Educators from the Houston area will be at the museum to find out more about the educational programs offered to them and their students. They will be exploring the museum’s exhibits and taking part in special presentations that include a dissection and a science show.
VISUALS/ - Giant animatronic bugs that move and make noises like real bugs.
INTERVIEWS: - Hundreds of insect specimens, including walking sticks, arthropods, moths and butterflies.
- Robotic bugs that visitors can control.
- Families exploring the Backyard Monsters exhibit and taking part in the Naturally Wild presentation (Saturday only).
- Interviews with museum President Jon Iszard (Friday only).

ABOUT THE HEALTH MUSEUM
The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science, also known as The Health Museum, is a member institution of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and is located in the heart of Houston’s Museum District at 1515 Hermann Drive Houston, TX 77004. Recent additions to the museum include You: The Exhibit, a highly interactive look at the physical, psychological and future you, and the McGovern 4D Theater, Houston’s only 4D theater, where 3D films and environmental effects like wind, rain, fog and lightning combine to create a memorable experience.
Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. General Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 – 12 and senior adults.
