The Texas China Business Summit

According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers publication, The World in 2050, China is expected to overtake the US as the largest economy in the world around 2025and to grow to around 130% of the size of the US economy by 2050. Trade between Houston and China increased to $10 billion in 2009 and represents a compound annual growth rate of 23.3% since 2000. China is Houston's second largest air cargo trade partner and imports from China increased 34.4% from $7.4 billion in 2007 to $9.9 billion in 2009. Houston ranks as China's 10th largest trading partner.

The Texas China Business Summit will be held on October 25-29, 2010. The Summit will be hosted by the International Trade Center (ITC) in collaboration with the US Commercial Service, Texas Governor's Division of Economic Development & Tourism, the City of Houston, Rice University, Jones Graduate School of Business, the University of Houston Asian American Studies Center and leading American and Chinese business corporations. It will be held from October 25-27, 2010 in Houston and October 28-29, 2010 in Washington, DC.

This two and a half day Business Summit will focus on important issues in Texas-China relations: energy, finance, trade investment, health and education and will target small to medium-sized companies/organizations both in Texas and China. The purpose of the Summit is to initiate mutual public/private partnerships and promote economic growth, integration, and free trade between Texas and China.

Panel discussions will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 8:00 - 3:30 pm at Rice University, Shell Auditorium. The keynote luncheon speaker is Derek Mathiesen, President, Products and Technology, Baker Hughes. On Wednesday, October 27, workshops on How to Do Business in China, Effective Communication Based Leadership Style - A Prime Mover For The Dynamic Global Market and Case Studies will be held at the International Trade Center located at 11110 Bellaire Blvd., 2nd Floor, Houston, TX 77072. The keyote luncheon speaker is Russ Capper, The Business Makers Radio Show. Their will be a Summit Expo from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm also at the International Trade Center as well as B2B matchmaking in 20 minute increments in the afternoon.
