I am honored to invite you to the Career Development and Entrepreneurship Forum hosted by the United Association of Chinese Alumni in Greater Houston Area (UACA) and University of Houston Chinese Students & Scholars Association (UHCSSA). The event is also co-sponsored by MGD International Economic & Technical Development LLC, Baylor College of Medicine Chinese Students & Scholars Association, Rice University Chinese Students & Scholars Association, Texas Southern University Chinese Students & Scholars Association, Houston Tsinghua Alumni Association and etc.
The forum will be held at the University of Houston University Center Houston Room at 1pm on Saturday, October 30, 2010. We would be honored if your association could participate in this event as our guests. The honorable VIP guests are Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston Consul General Gao Yanping, Education Consul in Chief Yan Guohua, Harris County Judge Emmett, Director of Texas Workforce Commission Mr. Larry Jones, CEO of Metro Bank George Lee and various Houston media groups and community leaders.
The event, which will take place at the University of Houston University Center Houston Room and University Hilton Hotel is consisted of three sessions:

The honorable panelists and keynote speakers are business, corporate, government leaders and represent industries such as Oil & Gas, Medicare, Engineering, Technology and Education etc. A Career Mixer offers opportunities to network with panelists and representatives from local Houston businesses and organizations.
The mission of this forum is to establish strong objectives that embrace professional development and personal growth. More than 40 Chinese student and alumni associations have participated in the organizing committee. The Honorable Samuel Tinsing Mok
Forum Keynote Speaker
Samuel Tinsing Mok is the Managing Member of Condor International Advisors, LLC, a Washington DC based management consulting firm providing innovative business relationship management and business advisory services. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Department of Labor from January 2001 to May 2007. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in January 2002 after being appointed to the position by President George W. Bush. Previously he served as Managing Member of Condor Consulting LLC, Comptroller and the first career CFO of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. Foreign Service Officer, and Captain in the U.S. Army. Additionally, he was the Director of Accounting for Time-Life Books and Treasurer of U.S. News and World Report. In 2006, Mr. Mok received the Prestigious Donald L. Scantlebury Memorial Award for Distinguished Leadership in Financial Management Improvement. He was named as the “Fed 100” by Federal Computer Week and the recipient of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) Washington, DC, Chapter Einhorn/Gary Award. In 2005, he received the AGA Distinguished National Leadership Award. Mr. Mok served on the Republic of the Marshall Islands Trust Fund Committee and the General Administration Board of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Graduate School. He was elected as a Fellow of National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) in 2005 and served on the Government Accountability Office Advisory Council on Government Audit Standards. He was the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Academy for Government Accountability and is a 2006 Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at the University of Kentucky Martin School of Public Policy and Administration. Mr. Mok is also the recent Recipient of the 2007 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In 2007, Mr. Mok became the Board Member of Monte Jade Science and Technology Association of Greater Washington, D. C. Area. Mr. Mok served as the National President of AGA from 2008 to 2009. Mr. Mok received his B.S. in Accounting from Fordham University and a M.A. in Accounting from The Catholic University of America. He is a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a Certified Internal Control Auditor (CICA). Mr. Mok and his wife, Nancy, reside in Maryland. They are the proud parents of two grown children, both attorneys, and six grandchildren.

Mrs. May Qi – Moderator
Mrs. May Qi who is the founder and President of U.S. Chinese Channel, the most received Chinese radio station in Houston. U.S Chinese Channel is the only programmer who provides Chinese and Asia focused English radio programs in Texas. U.S Chinese Channel put great effort into creating and producing high quality and updated programs for the Chinese and American community, promoting mutual understanding and improvement among American and Chinese communities, provide a valuable means of communication between local government and the Chinese-American communities of Houston, and enriching the cultural and social lives of many Chinese Americans. Mrs. May Qi has produced many influential and popular programs. She has been being well recognized and is the judge of the Reward of Global Chinese Broadcasting.
Mr. Kuan Lei - Panelist
Mr. Lei started his career with the US Army Materials Laboratory in Boston conducting corrosion research on military hardware. Two years later, he moved to Houston and joined a private corrosion testing and consulting company with clients in various industries. Then he was hired by Compaq Computer to work on material issues in computers. At Compaq, he started with analyzing component failures, reliability, supplier quality, etc. Later, he began involving himself in printed circuit board manufacturing and became one of the few Senior Members of Technical Staff in the company. In year 2000 Mr. Lei left the technical field and switched to supply chain and worked as a program manager and commodity manager in the server division. He managed the supply chain of several outsourced server product lines which were built by the OEM partners. In 2007, Mr. Lei left HP and joined the oil field service company, Baker Hughes. He was the global sourcing manager of the new Production Quest division, responsible for developing sourcing for worldwide manufacturing. He is currently the strategic sourcing manager at Baker Hughes’s supply chain group and focusing on machining in the Latin America region. Mr. Kuan-Shaur Lei has a B.S., a M.S., and a Ph.D., all in materials/metallurgy from National Tsing-Hua University, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State University, respectively. His Ph.D. research focused on corrosion.
Mr. James Jiang – Panelist
Mr. Jiang is Finance Manager at GDF SUEZ ENERGY NORTH AMERICA and also currently serving as the President of the Chinese Association of Professionals in Science and Technology (CAPST). He graduated from Xiamen University in 1991 and is now also Adjunct Professor of Economics & Finance at South China University of Technology. He is CFA, CPA, CIA & MBA and PRMIA Houston Steering Committee member.
Mr. Sean Yang – Panelist
Dr. Yang is a senior quantitative analyst at BP energy trading department. He served at several companies including, Suez Energy as director of quantitative finance, UBS as associate director and Enron as trading technology manager. His interests include energy financial engineering, risk management, quantitative trading strategies, and energy economics. Dr. Yang received PhD in applied math, Master in computer science and MBA in finance.
Ms. Irene Liu – Panelist
Irene was recommended by VP of Human Resource, Carin Knickel at ConocoPhillips. She has held various positions in COP since 2002. She is currently an expatriate from China Business Unit and is considered a high potential employee. Her role includes supporting COP corporate function of Explorations, talent management team of Reservoir Engineering, Geoscience and Business Development. She graduated with MS in HR Management & Development from University of Leicester and BA in English for International Trade from Beijing Technology and Business University.

Mr. Jonas Chin
Jonas Chin is currently a University of Houston Constituent Relations Coordinator for University Services. He works with faculty, staff, students and administrators on various initiatives including the Green initiatives, parking and transportation, dining and bookstore. He graduated from the University of Houston in May 2009 from the Valenti School of Communications with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism and former student government leader.
Mr. Jay Steinfeld - Panelist
Jay Steinfeld is the founder and CEO of Blinds.com, the world’s #1 online retailer of window coverings, representing more than half of window treatments sold online. Annually, revenue exceeds $80 million. Blinds.com was awarded in March, 2010 the American Marketing Association's Marketer of the Year. After starting a small chain of window coverings retail stores, Steinfeld launched his first Web site in 1993 and eventually sold his stores in 2001 to go exclusively online. He is an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Blinds.com is currently ranked #236 on the Internet Retailer 500. In 2010, it was named one of Houston’s Best Places to Work by the Houston Business Journal, the Award of Excellence by the Better Business Bureau, and the honor of being the #1 E-Commerce company in Houston, TX. Jay is a frequent speaker and writes weekly articles on leadership, for CBS News' BNET.com.
Ms. Cassandra Bell - Panelist
Cassandra started her company, Bell Publishing LTD, after her stint as the General Manager of another Publishing House in Houston, Texas. She decided to use the skills that she acquired in television and radio to build a dual language multimedia publishing company. She has worked as an on-air talent for Sirius Satellite Radio in New York City, as the Program Director for Liberman Broadcasting, and as a Creative Director for Telemundo where she was the Executive Producer for the first annual live eight-hour education telethon. She handled the international public relations campaign for Selena Quintanilla's family during the trial of Yolanda Salvidar. She has produced television shows as well as having reported and anchored for stations in
California and Texas. She began her broadcast career at the age of sixteen at KRGV-TV, the ABC affiliate, in Weslaco, Texas, as a teen anchor for a segment titled Teen Break. Under her guidance, Bell Publishing LTD, has produced three musical compact discs with one co-produced by a Latin superstar, Javier Galvan. Bell Publishing has also created board games, books, and classroom materials in English and Spanish. Cassandra is married to her certified public account and limited partner, Maurice Bell. She is a published author with articles that have appeared in Radio and Records Magazine, Language Magazine, and Hispanic Monthly Magazine.
Mr. Simon Tang – Panelist
Mr. Tang is an attorney and has practiced primarily in the areas of international business transactions, such as the formation of joint ventures, partnerships and strategic alliances. He also practices in the areas of franchising, licensing, immigration, private placement, and equity investment. Mr. Tang is a Research Fellow of the Research Center for Economic Law of China University of Political Science and Law, a visiting professor of University of International Trade and Economics (Beijing) and a frequent seminar lecturer of Tsinghua University (Beijing). He serves as the Vice-Chairman of the annual "China Economic Forum" of Beijing, China, and the General Counsel of UNIDO-ITPO (China), a specialized organization of United Nations engaged in global investment and technology promotion. Mr. Tang frequently travels to China, Taiwan and Hong Kong to represent his clients in international business transactions. Further, Mr. Tang has established affiliations with Chinese law firms in order to facilitate the investment, litigation and transactional interests of his clients. Mr. Tang is member of Member of American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Texas Land Title Association, National Association of Credit Management, American Immigration Lawyers Association and American Society of International Law and admitted to bar, 1994, Texas. Mr. Tang is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Fujianese dialects.
Mr. Jianwei Feng – Panelist
Dr. Feng is the President of JF Southwest Heart Clinic, Chairman, Hopson Medical Education and Development System, Board of directors, Chairman-elect (2011 to 2013) Heart and Vascular Institute at Memorial Herman Hospital Southwest. He also serves as Assistant professor of UT medical school; Attending physician: cardiologist, practiced in St. Luke’s Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital medical center and southwest. USA issued patent-part of Ph.D. dissertation: using molecular genetics strategy to define resistant or susceptible Gene (Nramp1) to Tuberculosis and Brucellosis in domestic animals. He received his PH.D. in Immunogenetics from Texas A&M University in College Station and M.D. in Medicine from Shandong Medical University in Jinan, China.

Mr. Larry Jones
Larry Jones is currently the Director of Workforce Development, with the Texas Workforce Commission, where he is responsible for the oversight of service delivery of workforce programs statewide. With more than $1.2 billion in contracts, he provides day-to-day liaison and guidance for Texas’ 28 workforce development boards. Larry retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1996 with the rank of Colonel. Among his many assignments, he was a navigator in the FB-111A aircraft, an executive assistant to a US Navy admiral and commanded the flying training squadron for all FB-111A training. He was also the Base Commander of the largest U.S. Air Force Base in Japan, where he was responsible for the day-to-day activities at a base of 14,000. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management from Texas A & M University, and subsequently received a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
Mr. George M. Lee
Mr. Lee was named President and Chief Executive Officer of MetroCorp Bancshares, Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of MetroBank N.A. in July 2004 and Chairman of Metro United in October 2005. He has served as a Class I director of the Company and a director of MetroBank since March 1999 and was elected to serve as Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of the Company in September 2003. Prior to that, Mr. Lee served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Erimos Pharmaceuticals (formerly BioCure Medical LLC), a joint venture between a private investment group and Johns Hopkins University. Its mission is to develop and commercialize a series of patented cancer drugs that have very low toxicity. From 1997 through 2000, Mr. Lee was an investor and an active executive team member of Higher Dimension Medical, a cutting edge high tech company involved in the development and manufacturing of puncture-proof material. Prior to this, from 1987 to 1997, he served as the Chief Operating Officer and President at various publicly-traded companies, including Hanover Direct in New York and Fingerhut Companies in Minnesota. His areas of responsibility included strategic planning and new business acquisitions. Mr. Lee also serves as an advisor to the board of directors of the Xiamen Chamber of Commerce in China and as a director on the board of the Texas Bankers Association. Mr. Lee received a Bachelor of Science in Econometrics from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters of Business Administration from Minnesota State University.
