Chinese New Year Celebration
A celebration of Chinese New Year, "The Year of the Rabbit" will be held at local gallery on February 11th and 12th. Wind Water Gallery has hosted this event at their gallery in the Heights for the past nine years and will continue the tradition this year. It is one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations held in the city with over one thousand expected in attendance for the two day event. It begins on Friday night, February 11 at 6:00 PM with live traditional Chinese music by the students from the Changlu Wu school of music. They will be playing traditional Chinese instruments including the pi pa, gu zheng, er hu and flute. At 7:00 PM there will be a performance of the traditional Chinese lion dance followed by a kung fu exhibition by the Shao Lin Temple of Houston. The night will continue with more traditional Chinese music until 10:00 PM.
Saturdays events will begin at 10:00 AM with live music. Another performance of the lion dance and kung fu will begin at 2:00 PM. Following will be a demonstration of tai chi, traditional Chinese meditaion and exercise. Live music performances will continue until 10:00 PM.
Wind Water Gallery is Houston's largest source of Asian antiques and home decor and is located at 548 W. 19th Street in the Heights.
