Chinese Community Center Celebrates East and West with daylong celebration
Houston, Texas – On Saturday, February 5, 2010, the Chinese Community Center will present its Lunar New Year Festival, an annual celebration featuring food, fun, and festivities for the entire community. Attracting over 10,000 visitors each year, the 2011 festival -- Year of the Rabbit celebration is day long, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Opening Ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m., and will feature VIPs and dignitaries. This year’s opening ceremony will also celebrate East and West and will include a special feature of the Houston Grand Opera’s new opera, “Courtside.”
Along with the Houston Grand Opera, other main attractions include Chinese Face Changing Magic Show and essence of multi-cultural performances. Other features include the traditional Dragon, Lion, and Zodiac dances, and Martial Arts presentations.
Exhibitions include Chinese face painting, Origami, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, New Year’s Eve feast display, and Chinese School theatre. The Houston Archaeological Society will also present its special feature of “Ming Fleet,” a documentary film screening and Archaeological workshop to make the Chinese Coin.
A 60-booth bazaar will showcase authentic Asian food, information booths, and 20 children’s games. A raffle will be held ($3 per ticket) that includes grand prizes such as round-trip airline tickets. A variety of Asian food specialties and arts & crafts, including commemorative Year of the Tiger t-shirts, will also be available for purchase.
