Sugar Land Memorial Park
After last year's overwhelming success, residents will get to enjoy this recreational activity once again for a full day along with other activities and entertainment. Kite flying is a popular activity and sport in many countries around the world, and it has proved to be a major hit in Sugar Land as our City represents a mixture of cultures and diversity. Stay tuned for more up-to-date information closer to the date of the event.
Activity & Entertainment
Activities and entertainment will include a miniature kite museum showcasing the diversified history of kite making, kite flying lessons and competitions, face painting, henna tattoos and various cultural performances on a main stage. Also planned is a kite-making workshop where children can build their own kites and take them home as memorabilia. Walk-around characters, such as Ben Franklin, will provide atmosphere and a sense of connection to the history of kite flying in the United States. A Cirque du Soleil inspired stilt-walker will roam the meadow enticing the crowd on behalf of OVO, one of Cirque's big top touring shows that will open at Sam Houston Race Park on March 10. And there will be plenty of space for free flying kite lovers or those who prefer to stroll around and just enjoy the magnificent view and entertainment.
Food & Drinks
A variety of cultural refreshments will be sold by local area restaurants throughout the day. Please sure to stop by any of the food booths to taste these worldly treats that the whole family will savor. Food booths include Thai Cottage II/Blue Fish Restaurant, Chick-Fil-A and Indian Snacks & Sweets.
Parking will be available at the Sugar Land Memorial Park and also at the University of Houston Sugar Land Campus also located on University Blvd. Shuttle buses will provide transportation form the campus to the park. Please look for signs for Shuttle Bus pickup spots.
