|The annual Japan Festival celebration of Japanese culture strikes a more poignant note this year. Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami of March 11, the Festival will adopt the theme and slogan, "Ganbare Japan, We are with You". |
The Festival will salute the spirit and the resiliency of the Japanese people as they face an unbelievable crisis, and will provide Festival visitors opportunities to give donations to directly help the Japanese people.
The "Japanese Community Coalition of Houston" has been formed by the four supporting organizations of the Japan Festival: The Japan-America Society of Houston, the Japan Business Association of Houston, Japanese Association of Greater Houston, and the Japanese American Citizens League Houston. Donations to the Japan Relief Fund, collected by these organizations, individually and at the Festival, will be channeled through the Consulate General of Japan in Houston, directly to the Japan Red Cross for use in the relief efforts for Northeastern Japan.
The Japan Festival annually contributes to the City of Houston and the Hermann Park Conservancy toward the maintenance of the beautiful Japanese Garden and its enjoyment by residents and visitors to Houston. That mission continues this year, but with the added opportunity for Festival-goers to express their friendship and sympathy with the Japanese people through donations to the Japan Relief Fund.
We hope to see the spirit of Houston turn out in support of our Japanese friends. Ganbare, Japan!
