Artists' Heart, is a fund raising event dedicated to Japan & United States Disaster Relief Saturday, July 16, 2011 - 8PM held at the Ayva Center, Houston

Tsunami and Earthquakes in Japan

Japan was hit by an enormous earthquake on March 11, 2011, that triggered a deadly 23-foot tsunami in the country's north. The giant waves deluged cities and rural areas alike, sweeping away cars, homes, buildings, a train, and boats, leaving a path of death and devastation in its wake. Video footage showed cars racing away from surging waves. The United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake and revised its magnitude from 8.9 to 9.0, which is the largest in Japan's history; close to 10,000 were confirmed dead; plus 15,000 people still missing based on the March report.

Tornadoes in the United States

Recently, some of the deadliest Tornadoes ever attacked cities in the United States: Alabama, Missouri and for the first time, in Massachusetts. More than 500 people have been reported killed and Thousands of homes destroyed with many people still missing.

Artists’ Heart

Artists throughout time - performing artists and visual artists -
have always been there to remind us of our humanity. Artists have shown us through their pulsating music and touching lyrics; through dynamic dance and with paintings and sculpture, that we are all brothers and sisters; that we are each other, connected through heart and soul.

The past months - overseas and here in America - have been plagued by disaster; tsunamis, earthquakes and tornados with horrific loss to our friends in Japan and neighbors here in Alabama and Missouri.

And so Houston multi-cultural artists have decided to band together to remind each other and our diverse citizenry – that here in Houston, we care, we have ARTISTS' HEART. Please join us. Together we can truly make a difference.

ARTISTS' HEART, is scheduled to take place Saturday, .July 16th, 2011 at the AYVA Center, 9371 Richmond Avenue at Ocee Road. Funds from the evening's program admissions, through the silent auction of fine art, and general donations raised through the event will be dedicated to disaster relief related to the recent tornadoes in the United States as well as the Tsunami and Earthquake in Japan as donated to both the American and Japan Red Cross. The donated portion to Japan Red Cross will be channeled through the Consulate of Japan in Houston.
