When I look at the challenges facing us in the world in the 21st century, I believe that the solutions must come from a collaboration of for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises that will create new mindsets and sustainable organizations that will ignite the entrepreneurial spirit that lives within each and every human being.
Mandy Kao is just such a solution-based change-agent. In the midst of her highly-successful career as businesswoman, Mandy has created a foundation that focuses upon the vulnerable and under-served population in Houston, Texas and beyond. The foundation partners with NGO’s who serve the homeless and refugee populations, focuses upon women’s issues and provide jobs training and enterprise support to micro-enterprises and women-owned enterprises.
The foundation also devotes time and resources to agencies working in education, provides scholarships, and addresses the needs of school children in deserving neighborhoods and districts.
Mandy’s philosophy is that she doesn’t believe in hand-outs. She believes in hand-ups. I’ve met Mandy and am deeply inspired by her intelligence, her tenacity, and her fierce belief in the indomitability of the human spirit.
