WHAT: 21st Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program Press Conference

WHO: The City of Houston 锟斤拷s Solid Waste Management Department, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department Living Earth and Reliant Energy are sponsors of this year锟斤拷s Christmas Tree Recycling Program.
WHY: Each year tens of thousands of used Christmas trees are needlessly tossed into landfills. The Department of Solid Waste Management is urging Houstonians to help the environment by recycling their Christmas trees. The trees will be ground into mulch, saving space in area landfills. The recycling program will run until January 8, 2012. Recycled trees must have tinsel, ornaments and stands removed. No flocked trees can be recycled.

The Solid Waste Management Department provides solid waste service to the citizens of Houston through the collection, disposal and recycling of discarded material in a manner that is safe, efficient, environmentally sound and cost-effective.
