“If you truly want to see change in Washington, then we must change who we’re sending to Washington,” is Barbara J. Carlson’s message. So, who is this dynamic, courageous and highly-qualified Republican Conservative Constitutionalist who stunned Republicans at the Texas Ballot Straw Poll with less than six weeks out of the gate, pulling down 51.5 percent of the votes, defeating the incumbent Pete Olson, and who a WWII vet has coined Carlson as “the education kid”?
Barbara was born in MN, the daughter of a dedicated farmer (who turned down playing with the St. Louis Cardinals) and her mother who was a leading senator during the memorable Reagan years. Her grandfather was not only a MN rep but then became a senator, so the political arena is nothing new.
Barbara married in 1982, moved to Texas in 1983, but tragedy hit her home in 1996 with the loss of her husband. Not only did she carry on her own successful court reporting agency as a veteran court reporter, but then took over her husband’s life insurance agency and grew it to a national level. With her two decades of expertise in the insurance industry, Carlson understands why Obamacare MUST be repealed—which the incumbent Olson admitted in La Marque before the tragic vote that he had not even read the healthcare bill, causing an uproar in the room.
Over the last decade Carlson’s been affiliated with Oracle Corporation, winning the National Sales Leadership Award, the only employee at her level to have received this prestigious award. It is based on (1) the ability to work across the entire nation’s departmental lines successfully; and, (2) leading with the most ethical standards.
Carlson was contemplating law school, so she returned to get her undergraduate degree at U of H, graduating in the top three percent (Summa Cum Laude). While completing an undergraduate project, her studies on Daniel J. Elazar’s book “American Federalism” caught her attention, with her then doing a sole understudy the next three years and penning her book, “Face It, We’re Broken,” released in October, 2011, and endorsed by Sam Malone.
Carlson has continually risen above the toughest odds. “I received an excellent foundation from my parents,” she attributes her success. “When you always lead with the highest ethics, integrity and with God in the center of the big picture,” you will be a great leader; you will always do what’s right.”
“I am desperately needed in Washington,” Carlson explains. “We need courageous leaders now more than ever. We need to get our country back on solid ground with experienced business leaders at the forefront. We need a rock-solid Republican who not only embraces our great Constitution but understands it. We don’t have any of that with Olson. He’s let us down with his poor voting record and lack of leadership—an establishment incumbent representative.
Olson’s vote on the debt ceiling is deplorable. It not only violated our Constitution but Olson ignored the pleas from his constituents. Shortly after passage, our country’s credit rating dropped from AAA to AA—the first time in our history. Yet, Olson now touts that he supports a balanced budget—a serious contradiction. Are the necessary critical cuts completed with the debt ceiling increase? We all know that answer. Our country will be facing the next financial crisis in September—after the May 29th primary. What will we, the people, be told then as why our money is being spent like drunken sailors? Olson voted for the NDAA and HR347—serious infringements on our Constitution.
Carlson wouldn’t have voted for any of these three bills and would have spoken out against them. Our borders are no more secure than two years ago—or the last four years Olson has been in office. Where was Olson in fighting to save NASA? Where was Olson’s leadership in getting one of the shuttles here?
We need someone in Washington who grasps why identity theft has increased 630% in the last four years. We need an experienced business owner who grasps what’s really happening to small business. We need someone who will adhere to our Constitution. I will do this.
