WHY: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) are gearing up for the big battle over immigration reform. Reacting to reports that family-based immigration is at risk of being dismantled with the proposed elimination of the brother/sister and adult married children family visas – an issue that disproportionately impacts AAPIs, Latinos, and women - a coalition of AAPI community groups and members are holding a press conference to denounce the attacks on immigrant families. Community leaders will call for an end to using family members as bargaining chips and urge Congress to pass an immigration reform bill that reunites immigrant families for the long term social and economic vitality of our nation.
