|Houston – The Greater Houston Partnership will welcome the Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, to the organization’s State of Water event on Monday, September 30. The event will address the state’s critical need for additional water infrastructure and feature a panel discussion with representatives from the San Jacinto River Authority, Dow Chemical, Odebrecht Environmental and City of Houston followed by a keynote address by Speaker Straus. The discussion will focus on funding the State Water Plan through a one-time investment of $2 billion from the state’s Economic Stabilization Fund (Rainy Day Fund). This funding mechanism was developed by the Texas Legislature this session and would support critical water projects for the next 50 years – without increasing taxes. A referendum to approve the funding, Proposition 6, will be considered on the November 5, 2013 statewide ballot. |
