Bob Pertierra JOINS Greater Houston Partnership as senior vice president and chief economic development officer

BY Alex Wang [ January 02, 2014 at 23:49:01 ]

HOUSTON – The Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) announced today that Bob Pertierra has joined the organization as Senior Vice President and Chief Economic Development Officer. Pertierra most recently served as a vice president at Metro Atlanta Chamber, where he focused on economic development activities in the advanced manufacturing and logistics sectors.

“We are excited to welcome one of the nation’s leading economic development professionals to Houston,” said Bob Harvey, GHP President and CEO. He added “Bob’s experience in cluster development, particularly in advanced manufacturing and logistics, along with his ability to work with multiple stakeholders in the Atlanta region to drive results, is impressive. He will be a powerful catalyst to continued long-term growth of the Houston region.”

In his new role, Pertierra will lead GHP’s economic development efforts, providing assistance to companies considering expanding, relocating or investing in the 10-county greater Houston region. Pertierra will also oversee GHP’s international trade and investment programs and its economic development marketing efforts. He will report directly to Bob Harvey and will assist Bob in completing the Opportunity Houston 2.0 $40 million fundraising campaign, which is dedicated to funding GHP’s economic development efforts over the next six years.

Pertierra is scheduled to begin serving in his new role later this month.

Pertierra joined Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC) in 2003 and worked to recruit, promote, and grow Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Tech and Supply Chain companies. In this position, Pertierra established MAC’s Supply Chain Leadership Council to attract supply chain and advanced manufacturing companies, recruit international air cargo carriers, and position the Atlanta region as one of the world’s premier centers for logistics management.

Through this council, Pertierra and his colleagues helped recruit more than 130 new facilities to the Atlanta region, creating more than 12,300 jobs. On the international side, Pertierra successfully partnered with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to recruit many new international air cargo carriers including: Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Asiana Cargo, Cargolux, Great Wall, and Qatar.

Pertierra brings to GHP a solid foundation of leadership with eight years as an officer in the United States Army. His experience includes special operations and airborne operations with the 75th Ranger Regiment and the 82d Airborne Division. Following his military service, Pertierra worked for Pfizer in sales and marketing. He later served as director of corporate relations for a national nonprofit founded by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, where he worked with Fortune 500 companies to create and manage public-private partnerships and corporate image campaigns.

Pertierra has a bachelor of arts in international economics from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from Georgetown University and a masters in international logistics from the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. He is conversant in Spanish. He will be joined in Houston by his wife Ericka and their young daughter.
