HPL FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Houston (December 30, 2015) – The Houston Public Library Foundation (HPLF) has appointed Sally Swanson as its new Executive Director. She will begin her new duties on Monday, January 4, 2016, starting the New Year on an exciting foot.
Ms. Swanson comes to HPLF with years of expertise in fundraising, cultivating strategic community partnerships and increasing membership. She has been with the Girls Scouts of San Jacinto since 2006 serving first as its Membership Manager and quickly moved into the Director of Membership position. In 2010, she was promoted to the Philanthropy Director position. As the Philanthropy Director, she accumulated gifts up to $1.5 million from individuals and organizations. She consistently increased donor constituencies and exceeded her goals annually. Prior to her time at the Girl Scouts, Ms. Swanson was the Instructor for the Developing a Comprehensive Annual Giving Program at Rice University, various community and fundraising director positions at United Way of Forsyth County and a General Manager at Lark Group, a sustainable construction company.
She has been an active member of the community volunteering for various non-profit entities, such as the United Way. Ms. Swanson has a passion for learning and enjoys sharing that passion with children and adults alike.
“My passion for reading started as a child and has followed me through adulthood,” says Ms. Swanson, “I have always enjoyed visiting and using the resources of the Houston Public Library where I see Houstonians of all ages and backgrounds coming together to improve their reading, to attend the library’s various programs, and to learn new skills. The library provides tools for children and adults to be successful. That’s exciting and important work and I am thrilled to be a part of it through my new role as Executive Director of the HPL Foundation.”
“Sally brings exactly what we need at the HPL Foundation table – experience, enthusiasm, a wide range of skills and the ability to develop long-standing relationships that will benefit the organization. We’re very delighted to have her as a part of the team.” Says Licia Green-Ellis, Chair, of Houston Public Library Foundation Board.
“The HPL Foundation is a great partner, provides tremendous support to the Houston Public Library, and plays a critical role in our path forward.” says Dr. Rhea Brown Lawson, Director of the Houston Public Library, “We are excited to have Sally join us and welcome her knowledge, skills and abilities to help position us for continued success, now and in the future.”
Ms. Swanson’s diverse background and passion for helping the community makes her a perfect fit to fill HPLF’s Executive Director’s position, whose mission is to be an advocate for the Houston Public Library, promoting awareness on its services and raise funds to support HPL’s initiatives such as free programs, increasing its book selection, free online services and staff training to serve the needs of Houston’s thriving population.
