LAMPSON TO INPSECT HURRICANE TRACKING AIRCRAFT

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Tuesday, May 22, Congressman Nick Lampson (D-Stafford) will be given a ground tour of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ("NOAA") and Air Force aircraft at Washington's National Airport.　Congressman Lampson will meet with aircraft crew, scientists, and program managers to learn more about state-of-the-art technology in the aviation and sciences fields that concentrate on storm tracking.
"In light of recent strong storm seasons, it is vitally important to continue to discuss the future of hurricane tracking technology, and to make sure we fill any gaps in our forecasting and tracking efforts," said Congressman Lampson.　"NOAA's aircraft are doing important work, and deserve strong support in Congress."
NOAA will provide congressional tours of three aircraft: the P-3, an advanced environmental research platform; G-IV, for investigation of processes in the upper troposphere; and Air Force Hurricane Hunters, which provide reconnaissance of tropical storms and hurricanes.
"With hurricane season beginning in less than two weeks on June 1, we must all do whatever we can in our communities to get the word out about hurricane preparedness," added Congressman Lampson.　"After the failures of the previous Congress, the new Congress is finally addressing the complete fallout of the hurricanes of late 2005.　Now we must look to increased mitigation and prevention of such destruction.　We must prepare for natural disasters such as these, and ensure that we do not find ourselves in this situation again."
Congressman Lampson will also provide live comments on-site from 1:00 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.
