美國德州關帝廟

關羽字云長為東漢未年蜀漢的五虎上將之首，他的傳奇二千多年來歷久不衰，如〝桃園三結義〞，〝三英戰呂布〞，〝溫酒斬華雄〞等故事更是家喻戶曉。在中國的歷史長河中，猛將名士多如銀河星斗，為什么千百年來人們獨尊關羽呢？其精髓在于一個〝義〞字.

曹操一代杲雄， 帳下精兵良將何止万千，但他獨愛關羽，佩服是他的義气。關羽為了尋找兄長劉備，降漢不降曹；曹操對之上馬金、下馬銀，三日一大宴、五日一小宴，送赤兔馬、封漢壽亭候。但關羽一有劉備消息便封金挂印，保護兩位嫂嫂尋兄，過五關斬六將，千里走單騎。

孔子与關羽是華夏文武兩聖，文拜孔子，武拜關羽。對於為人父母，兄弟姊妹，朋友長輩等人与人之間的關糸，無不貫穿一個〝義〞字。這种傳統精神隨著中國人漂洋過海而傳遍全世界，在東南亞的越南，泰國，新加坡，印尼乃至歐州和美州大陸， 勤奮善良的華裔、亞裔僑民為關羽塑像建廟，祈求家人和朋友和气生財， 繼承發揚傳統的東方文化。

遠在美國西南重鎮的休斯頓，有一群志同道合的亞裔僑民，他們廣交朋友，縱撗聯合，集多團体多族裔人民之偉力，協力同心創建了一座既有傳統中華文化和建筑藝術特色，又反映美國亞裔移民多民族文化之古雅雄美的德州關帝廟。當你從關帝廟的正門步入，迎面是南海觀音菩薩，左側為釋迦牟尼睡佛群像；大殿前是万世師表孔子，那吒太子和笑口常開的彌勒佛。進入大殿后，仰首正是威武文雅的關帝聖君，分立兩旁是關平太子，周倉爺爺，下面是馬夫將軍。后殿為釋迦牟尼佛，天后聖母，九天玄女和地藏王。大殿的左右兩側還供奉主處聖母、地母元宮、太歲爺、財神爺、太神醫、那吒太子、紅孩儿等。

美國德州關帝廟地處於休斯頓市城中心，正面對著寬廣繁忙的45號高速公路，与對側著名的休斯頓大學遙遙相望。 廟宇古雅雄偉，視野极之開闊，為一難得風水寶地。廟內有多位高僧服務大眾，駐廟主持為著名的泰國華裔高僧釋善天法師 (Master Lim，Phra Pornthep Limvivat)。 德州關帝廟是目前美國最大的關帝廟，亦為休斯頓市政府官方指定旅游觀光宗教寺院之一。德州關帝廟地秀神靈，十分歡迎諸位光臨。

Guan Yu, by the style name Yunchang, topped the five generals of Shu Han, One of the three Kingdoms. He has been a fondly remembered legend for two thousand years, appearing in word-of-moth stories like “Oath of Brotherhood in the Peach Garden”, “Three Heroes Combating Lv　bu”, and “ Hua Xiong Dies While the Wine Is Still Warm”. Why is Guan Yu the most worshipped out of the myriad heroes over the two thousand years? It is because of one word: righteous.

Cao Cao, a warlord with thousands of capable generals, admired Guan Yu alone, just for his righteousness. In his search of his sworn brother Liu Bei, Guan Yu surrendered to the Han Dynasty, not to Cao himself. Cao had done what he could to win over Guan Yu: high rank, plenty of gold, luxurious banquets, a once-in-a-blue-moon steed Chi Tu Ma, the title of Prince Shouting, etc. But Guan Yu was more concerned about Liu Bei, and as soon as he got news about Liu Bei, he gave up everything, and battling alone through hundreds of miles, escorted Liu Bei’s two wives safely to the side of Liu Bei.

Confucius and Guan Yu are the two saints of China, and the former ideological and the latter military. Righteousness is woven into the relations with people around us: parents, brothers, and sisters, and friends. Such a traditional virtue has traveled along with the migrating Chinese people to every corner of the world: Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Europe, and America, where the hardworking Chinese and Asian people set up Guan Yu statues and temples to seek his protection for peace and wealth.

In Houston, a city in the Southwest of the United States, some Asian people pooled their efforts and resources to build the Texas Guandi Temple reflecting the classic and grand multiethnic culture of Asian immigrants in the United States as well as featuring the traditional Chinese culture and architecture. If you enter the temple through the front gate, you will see Guantin Bodhisattva before you, and a group of Buddha’s at the left. In front of the main hall is Confucius the Sage, Prince Nuozha, and Maitreya the Happy Buddha. Right in the main hall is the martial and elegant Guan Di the Saint, with Prince Guan Ping and General Zhou Cang at the sides and MA Ye down below. In the back hall are Sakyamuni, Empress Heaven, Goddess Zhu Chu, Di Mu Yuan Gong, Tai Sui Ye, God of Wealth, Imperial Doctor, Prince Nuozha, and Prince Hong Hai ER.

The Texas Guandi Temple is in the hart of Houston, facing University of Houston across the wide and bustling Highway 45. The temple dominates a broad filed of vision and is tended by several learned monks headed by the renowned Master Lim Phra Pornthep Limvivat from Thailand. Texas Guandi temple is now the largest Guandi Temple in the United States and one of the tourist temples designated as tourism resorts by the City Hall of Houston.
