League City大型中日式自助餐厅诚征大厨、企台、收银带位，有身份懂英文。意者敬请致电：(936) 333-7999。
My name is Patrick Wu and I am in the 11th grade at St. John’s School in Houston. Every weekend, for the past 10 years, I have been taking Chinese language and culture lessons at Hua Xia Chinese School, at which several thousands of students attend from all over the Metropolitan Houston area including Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, Clear Lake, Tomball, Cy-fair, Pearland, Friendswood and as far as Galveston.
This year, I graduated from my Chinese School and won 1st place in the Hua Xia Chinese School-MetroBank Scholarship. Having achieved the first place title in this scholarship competition, I also received a monetary prize of $1500. Instead of using this prize money on myself, though, I thought about putting it to better use.
Former President Bush passed the No Child Left Behind Act for the United States, but I want to extend the idea of “no child left behind” globally as well as to extend it to different dimensions. Last month, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the YuShu County in the QingHai province of China. Almost all the buildings and residences collapsed, including schools, depriving numerous students of an education. I would like to assist in the rebuilding of schools and buying of text books, pencils, and other school supplies to allow students to continue their education. Following the ex-president’s theme, I believe that all children should have equal opportunities to go to school and receive an education because this is just the first step towards the goals they have in mind. We can’t leave them behind; we need to help them. For a remote, rural area in China, the financial difficulties are the ultimate issues for them to restore education. Hence, I would like to donate all my scholarship money to the students for a quick recovery. Though I know I need this money for my college, those students in China are in a more desperate need of this financial sustenance. For me, I can earn the funds for my college because I have various opportunities such as through my future work, other scholarships, etc. I believe that my contribution to this effort brings these students in China one step closer towards their goals.
I would like to ask Consul General of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston to help me deliver these funds to the students in the damaged area of YuShu County.
